Buckingham, a thriving market town can today look back on more than fourteen hundred years of history. It has experienced both triumph and disaster and has had many rulers - Saxons, Danes and Normans. There have been times of prosperity; for a while in the Middle Ages Buckingham was an important wool town. But there have also been periods of decline and economic adversity. If we add the Civil War, visits by Royalty and the Buckingham fire of 1725, all in all we have a really fascinating history. The story of Buckingham makes it one of the most interesting communities in this part of England .

The town has grown rapidly over the past 25 years, but many historic buildings still stand, mainly of Georgian appearance, although most were restored and renovated after the disastrous fire. In the centre of Buckingham stands the Old Gaol which now houses a museum and set on a hill amongst pretty cottages is the beautiful church of St Peter and St Paul .

Buckingham has many good facilities, which include a leisure centre with swimming pool. There are health clubs and an all weather sports pitch. Golf courses and cricket and football pitches are nearby, one of which is the home of Buckingham Town football club. Waddesdon Manor and Stowe House are two of the tourist attractions which attract many visitors as does The Silverstone Race Circuit , the home of British Formula One, which is busy all year round

There are a variety of shops, boutiques, restaurants and public houses and a twice weekly market. Once a month the local farmers also hold a market, selling local produce. For further shopping needs Milton Keynes, Oxford and Northampton are all just a short journey away.
