Public gets chance to view initial proposed route for orbital park

The early proposals for the Aylesbury Gardenway, the orbital park encircling the town, are now available to view in an online exhibition.

The walking, cycling and wheeling avenue – linking a collection of existing, planned and new parks and public green spaces – has been the subject of 12 online discussions and design workshops since December, generating a massive public response.

A statement on the Gardenway website reads: “We’ve also been talking to key stakeholders around the route, such as developers and landowners, and the proposals have been developed based on the collected feedback from the co-design workshops, community conversations and the interactive ‘put a pin in it’ map.”

Many of the ideas which came to light during the discussions have been included, and Lisa Michelson, the service director for economic growth and strategy, told The Bucks Herald: “This is such an exciting project and, from the response received during the engagement campaign, we know this is something that local people want and support.

“The exhibition gives people a chance to see how their feedback has helped to develop an initial route.

“It will take many years to complete the orbital park. As the different sections come forward, funding will need to be found and care taken to ensure that the design meets local needs and is sympathetic to the local environment.”

One part of the Gardenway is already under way with the designs for the development of the Quarrendon Leas section being drawn up with installation expected to start later in the year.

The exhibition – which can be accessed at Plans Listings (aylesburygardenway.co) – opened on Monday (April 19th) and will run to May 31st, at which point a report will be prepared with recommendations for the proposed route distilled into deliverable sections, along with plans for future development.
